Pegasus 1 - An Experiment in Sleep Deprivation

Now that was one hell of a weekend! I actually managed to set off on time on the Thursday (10.30am) and had a nice clear run down the motorway, there was even more traffic on the M1 than there was on the M25 if you can believe it. I arrived at the Thistle at 2.00pm and checked in (was in the 800 block this time, easy access to the con *grin*) and as luck would have it Ruthie got there just half an hour before I did. Dumped all stuff in the room and then we went down to help with the set.
It was amazing I got to do loads of painting on the Thursday and when we'd done I kinda wish now that we'd gone down to the bar because the Jedi Chef's were down there and Aaron Douglas (Chief Tyrol, BSG) turned up. But me and Ruthie stayed in our room and read fanfiction and watched House before dropping off in the early hours.
Friday morning we had breakfast and met up with Piper and I'm sorry but I can't remember the other girls name *cringe* We'd just finished and were standing leaning against one of the partitions when for some bizarre reason everything started graying out for me. I've nearly passed out a couple of times in my life and it's not a pleasant experience and for the rest of the day I had several mother hens reminding me to eat and drink, it was kinda nice actually and gave me a sort of warm glowy feeling. This morning they'd partitioned off half of the hall and it was driving me insane not knowing what was going on behind those doors but it was 'Authorised Personnel Only' and I wasn't authorised. Piper got to go behind at some point during the morning and kept coming out covered with blue paint which only fueled my curiosity but later in the afternoon I got asked to enter the 'forbidden zone' because I have a steady hand for painting. Would you believe they'd built an honest to god Atlantis Stargate with LED lit symbols and everything. Me and Piper were painting in the details on the outer and inner ring which took forever but I found oddly theraputic. At some point in the day people started arriving including Ruthie's friend Mel and Sharron whom I've met at several cons now and is always a scream. We finished the gate and went off to the stewards meeting, get food and changed for the meet and greet. The stewards meeting was a new thing but was excellent because you got to see beforehand who was doing what and who was who. Unfortunately we couldn't get a table all together and I couldn't find Hyaena so we settled for a seat with some delightful people who were over the moon when I started handing out glowsticks. I wore my green 'Brief Candle' costume which I absolutely adore but don't get to wear very often. We had all the guests come through but it was so funny when Joe (Flanigan, John Sheppard) was announced because Jason (Momoa, Ronon Dex) ran over and lifted him up off the floor in a bear hug. I think it could be said that those two are good friends. Its wierd because whenever you see these actresses and actors they always look slightly different in real life than when you see them on screen but Joe Flanigan is the exception. When he walked in the room (apart from the temperature rising several notches.....what can I say....he's hot!) there was no difference it was like the character John Sheppard had just walked in and you could not tell the difference unlike with all the others. When I came back from the bar at one point (No blue WKD *sulks*) Craig Veroni (Peter Grodin) was sitting in my seat and when I came up to the table he offered to relinquish the chair, which I declined and was then told I looked beautiful *blush*. When we'd all done I opted to get changed and decided to wear my new gothic dress and my 'Mad Fish' boots (if you don't know what they are.....shame on you) they're slightly more difficult to dance in because of the weight but are so comfy I didn't really care. Phil and Sharron were there too which was a great surprise (I love those two) and even though I only met them a couple of cons ago we get on like a house on fire (I'm currently teaching Sharron to dance Dr. Who). Danced all night to the usual con dances like Star Trekkin', Joe 90, Saturday Night etc. and then sat with the Chef's whom are too numerous to name. I think at one point I was also having a contest with someone Monty Python's Life of Brian vs. The Holy Grail, I won with Holy Grail quotes because that film is just full of them. Finally got back to the room at 4.45am. *groan* the experiment starts here!
Awake again at 7am along with the others (Mel, Ruthie and Sharron) and went for brekkie at 7.30am *ugh* I don't do mornings. As usual, no hangover despite mixing drinks Friday night, damn I 'm lucky. Got fantastic seats in the stewards area, 2nd row up and half way along. I went rather mad when I bought my photograph tickets I got one with Jason, Craig, Rainbow and Joe (Hello!) so I kept having to go out of the talks. First up was Ellie (Harvie, Lt. Lindsey Novak) but I didn't see much of her because of the photo sessions and ditto with Craig who was up next and then Jason. I was stewarding on the mic's in the afternoon during Rainbow (Sun Francks, Lt. Aiden Ford), Ivy (Isenberg, LA Casting Director) and Joe's talks so I got to see them all. The girl on the other mic was fantastic the pair of us were trying to communicate quietly accross the room using hand gestures which looked like some strange version of semaphore. We'd never met before that afternoon but over the weekend we seemed to stalk each other, every time I turned around she'd be there *snigger* it went on to be a standing joke between us. The worst thing about being on the mic's was that during Joe's talk we had some people asking him about the slash fanfic and he wasn't comfortable talking about it and it was obvious he was getting irritated with the questions so we were beginning to panic a little and had to start vetting the questions (discreetly of course) and making people limit to just one per time. We did get a well done off Sarah (I think she's in charge of the tech crew) at the end which was nice. All these guests were con virgins so it was rather fortuitous that Aaron Douglas turned up as he's done 2 Wolf cons now and knows the ropes.
The Fancy Dress competition was great as usual there were a few Wraith and a few Teyla's the best of which were Teyla and Teyla's Wraith consciusness, I'm afraid I kept bugging one of the girls asking if she'd make me one of the costumes (Mazzmatazz and Teejay I think). The Dutchies were great as usual, Wraith guard walks into a restaurant and the waitress reads the menu. Wraith orders the Chef's special (a blow up doll dressed in Atlantis uniform wearing a mask) which is brought in on a platter and placed before the Wraith. Wraith then proceeds to 'feed' off the body (doll deflates) and someone switches the plain mask to one of a mummy.....doesn't sound good when you tell it but at the time when you see it it's hilarious. For the party we had Jason, Rainbow, Aaron and Craig out in force drinking and dancing with us. This is why it was so good that Aaron was there (that and we love him anyway *grin*) because I think he must have filled everyone in. Danced all night then went to sit with the Chef's and finally crawled back to room at 4am.

To be continued shortly and possibly pix as well.......
